Good Grace

(here's an original poem: something to reflect on this Holy Week,
Good Friday in particular, in preparation for Easter and the Resurrection...)

You say you're a Christian
and yet you're granting permission,
given in total submission,
to sin, its blocking your vision
within, and you think you'll win,
and I admit that I've been there,
but there is only One Victor.
It's the Messiah, Christ Jesus,
Hallelujah! He frees us!
But have you told Him you need Him?
Maybe you think there's no reason
for you to need of a Savior.
I once was a heathen, I understand what you're saying,
but check your heart beat: can you stop it completely? willingly?
man, you can't, you're life's not in your hands,
it;s in His, without Him,
we're in chains, bound, wound, and enslaved;
consumed in hazardously addictions, voluntarily ignoring convictions,
seeking temporary and false affections: you still think you can buy your own salvation?
But that's a Life you can't gain through your own efforts,
that's Ephesians chapter two, the fourth through ninth verse.
See, it's by God's Good Grace that we can live this life.
Enjoy the smiles, and the laughs, while standing firm through the strife.

Now I want you to think about this
like I have had to think about this:
Choose to get drunk and have a lot of sex...
choose to do drugs, live your life in excess...
choose to hurt others, you're spewin' violence...
You're choosin' to spend your time while you're drownin' in sin,
So if you won't choose to spend even one day with Him,
why you desperately hopin' for eternity in Heaven?

See, we're all sinners no matter how hard we try to be saints.
Yes, it's good to feed the hungry, to mourn with others in their pain,
It's what he calls us to do: Love's the greatest gift to give today.
But the only thing that matters is what Christ lived on the Cross,
He gave up his life so that we could have one.
His death wasn't the end,
He resurrected, and ascended, and is seated at the Throne.
Pause, rewind, let me hear that one more time:
He resurrected and ascended and is seated at the Throne.
Believing in Him, you're resurrected in Him:
complete and total access to total forgiveness and love.
He tells us that with confidence we can meet Him at His Throne,
But I hope you check your steps, make sure you're on your way home...
